Arrests in Germany / France

14 February: Two former members of the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate (GID), Syria’s security service, have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of war crimes. One, Anwar R, 56, is accused of torturing up to two thousand people at a GID prison in Damascus between 2011 and 2012. The other, Eyad A, 42, is accused of working for the GID at the same prison, of killing two people and being involved in the torture of up to two thousand others. Both men left Syria in 2012. A third GID officer was arrested in France on 12 February.
