Gay security risk?

28 March: As part of its assault on all things Chinese and electronic, the United States has declared that the gay and transgender dating app, Grindr, is a national security risk. This follows a review by the Congressional Committee on Foreign Investments (CFIUS).

Grindr has been established for more than ten years and now has more than 27 million users worldwide. The app is currently owned by Kunlun Group, a Chinese company (yes, we were surprised as well). Apparently Kunlun bought the company in January 2018.

Reuters broke the story today quoting unnamed sources. But why a gay dating app should be seen as a security risk (more than any other app) is yet to be explained.
