Doan Thi Huong, the last of two suspects still detained in the case of the murder of Kim Jong-nam has been released by Malaysian authorities. She is believed to have accepted a lesser charge of “causing injury” enabling her to be freed at this early date. She is now expected to return to Vietnam.
Her release means that, other than four North Koreans who are unlikely to ever be brought to justice, no-one is now being held as part of the murder investigation. In effect, the North Koreans have got away with it. The idea of using innocent dupes to carry out an assassination on the grounds that they thought they were taking part in a reality TV show appears to have been a very good idea indeed.
