Consortium News in Canada sent a writ to the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) on 22 January accusing it of defamation. The writ claims that the CSE has incorrectly identified Consortium as part of a cyber influence campaign controlled by Russia. The news service is demanding a retraction and an apology. The writ alleges that the CSE passed intelligence to a rival news station, Global News.
The CSE is responsible for signals analysis in Canada and is comparable to the NSA in the US or GCHQ in the UK.
